Warframe’s latest update, The Sacrifice, is the series’ first cinematic quest in two years. Its release coincides with Tennocon 2018, another in a series of annual fan conventions that concern all things Warframe.

(Warning: Warframe spoilers ahead)

Warframe: The Sacrifice represents a departure from previous updates delivered by developer and publisher Digital Extremes. Instead of introducing a new major system or game mechanic, the update is mostly focused on conveying the next chapter in Warframe’s evolving narrative.

In it, players learn more about the story of Ballas, a member of the ancient Orokin Empire that was responsible for the creation of the game’s warframes, war machines that were deployed by the Orokin during a war with an artificial race called the Sentients—before eventually turning on their creators and leading to the downfall of the Orokin.

It’s clear that this update was designed for hardcore fans of Warframe who have remained committed to its story, requiring players to have completed a total of ten of the game’s prior quests to play it. Completing the quest grants players the powerful and stylish Excalibur Umbra warframe. Fans invested in the ever-unfolding narrative of Warframe do not want to miss this installment. You can catch up on Warframe’s lore over at the game’s Fandom wiki.

That’s not all the Warframe news for the week. Tennocon, the fan convention during which major Warframe announcements are frequently revealed, happened on July 7th and included a $10,000 cosplay contest, meet-and-greets with Warframe’s Twitch and YouTube partners, and even a host of interactive, educational panels that featured everything from a voice acting skillshare to tips on getting into a career in concept art.
